Job summary

State of Connecticut - DMHAS CT Mental Health Center in New Haven, CT seeks a Registered Nurse for the inpatient unit on second/third shifts (2:30 PM–11:00 PM/3:30 PM–12:00 AM). The job includes full-time 40 hours weekly, with a $3,000 yearly recruitment/retention bonus for those on second or third shift, prorated for part-time staff.

Applicants must graduate from an accredited nursing program and may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Experience in mental health nursing (preferred).
• Experience with medication administration using a medication and treatment kardex (preferred).
• Experience in holding groups on an inpatient unit (preferred).
• Experience in de-escalation techniques of patients in crisis (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Independently implements the nursing process with individuals including carrying out physician's orders regarding diet, medication and treatment.
• Performs assessments.
• Changes dressings.
• Monitors and ensures quality care through observation and evaluation.
• Reports on physiological and mental health status of individuals.
• Documents nursing interventions on medical records.
• Distributes and maintains records of controlled drugs and ensures their security.
