Qualifications

• High School / GED and 1 year hospital coding experience are required.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• CCS or CIC certification are preferred and strengthen eligibility.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and strong data entry skills are expected.
• Proficiency with computer applications and ability to work with the health care team.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information into the designated system.
• Manages medical information and cash flow related to the unbilled coding report.
• Keeps informed of ICD guideline changes and updates via training and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
