Job summary

micro1 seeks an Inpatient Medical Coder contractor to support a project focused on improving inpatient coding accuracy and data quality. You will review records, assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, determine MCC/CC and DRG impact, and flag documentation gaps for queries.

Remote in the United States, at least 10 hours per week, with certification in CIC/CCS/RHIA/RHIT preferred. Inpatient coders with DRG expertise and familiarity with AHA Coding Clinic are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Active inpatient coding experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Familiar with DRG assignment and MCC/CC concepts.
• Knowledge of POA indicators and their impact on coding.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient records to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding per guidelines.

Role Title: Inpatient Medical Coder

Role Type: Contractor

micro1 is engaging Inpatient Medical Coders to contribute to a valued project focused on enhancing inpatient clinical coding accuracy and data quality. In this role, you’ll apply your facility coding expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input.

Scope of Work

1. Review inpatient medical records to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding in line with current guidelines.
2. Determine the principal and secondary diagnoses for the full admission and assess how MCCs, CCs, and procedures affect DRG assignment.
3. Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness, and flag opportunities for provider queries.
4. Evaluate AI-generated clinical notes, summaries, and code suggestions against real-world documentation and inpatient coding standards.
5. Identify and resolve diagnosis and procedure coding discrepancies to protect data integrity.
6. Enter and validate AI-generated patient information in inpatient medical record and encoder systems.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Active coding certification such as CIC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT, or another AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
2. Inpatient ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding experience, including DRG, MCC/CC, and POA concepts.
3. Access to current official ICD-10 code sets and guidelines, and familiarity with AHA Coding Clinic.
4. Currently working in inpatient coding, clinical documentation improvement, or a closely related role.
5. Availability of at least 10 hours per week.
