Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando, FL seeks a skilled inpatient coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for acute care hospital records. You will ensure accurate DRG assignments, review documentation for MCC/CC opportunities, and support revenue cycle performance.

The role requires 2+ years inpatient coding experience or AdventHealth training, with CCS/RHIA/RHIT/CPC credentials. This full-time, on-site position offers comprehensive benefits and career growth avenues.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years inpatient acute care coding experience or completion of AdventHealth inpatient coding training.
  • Certification: CCS, RHIA, RHIT or CPC required.

Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient records.
  • Ensure accurate DRG assignment reflecting patient acuity and severity of illness.
  • Review documentation to identify MCC/CC capture opportunities and coding accuracy.
  • Maintain productivity and turnaround time standards to support DNFB reduction and revenue cycle performance.
  • Apply coding guidelines, IPPS, CMS regulations and payer rules for compliant coding.
  • Identify documentation gaps and collaborate with CDI for clarification when appropriate.
  • Incorporate audit feedback into daily coding practice for consistency.
  • Participate in quality reviews and respond to audits and performance improvements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding updates, regulatory changes, and organizational standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:
  • Assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient medical records based on clinical documentation
  • Ensures accurate DRG assignment reflecting patient acuity and severity of illness

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to interpret clinical documentation and its impact on coding and DRG assignment [Required]
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding, low acuity procedures, and inpatient reimbursement (IPPS) [Required]
  • Understanding of CDI processes and documentation requirements [Required]
  • Ability to identify coding and documentation risks [Required]
  • Ability to write compliant queries [Required]
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills [Required]
  • Effective communication and collaboration across clinical, CDI, and coding teams [Required]
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Work Experience:
  • 2+ years acute care hospital inpatient coding or completion of the AdventHealth inpatient coding training [Required]
Additional Information:
  • AdventHealth inpatient surgical coding training program completion may be considered in leu of work experience
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) [Required] OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) [Required] OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) [Required] OR Certified Professional Coder (CPC) [Required]
