Job summary

University of Minnesota School of Nursing seeks an experienced Inpatient Facility Coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, or HCPCS codes from medical records. The role involves coding inpatient and select outpatient cases, adhering to UHDDS sequencing and DRG/APC guidelines to ensure proper reimbursement.

The coder will use 3M 360, CAC, and Epic systems to maintain high accuracy, support physicians and staff, and uphold hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 2-year college or technical school in Health Information Management.
• Five (5) years of acute care hospital coding experience required.
• Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CIC or COC.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT or HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures from medical records.
• Code inpatient or outpatient records; outpatient must cover four areas independently.
• Follow official coding guidelines for accurate coding and reimbursement.
• Utilize 3M 360, CAC and Epic for proper coding and accuracy.
• Ensure documentation supports coding and request clarification when needed.
• Determine diagnosis sequences per UHDDS standards.
• Input data into systems for distribution to payers and regulators.
• Maintain knowledge of coding principles and guidelines and updated conventions.
• Aim for 95% coding accuracy and 95% weekly productivity.
