Job summary

Mercy is seeking an Inpatient Coding Specialist for a remote opportunity. You will review and analyze documentation in the medical record to assign diagnoses and procedures according to AHIMA standards and official coding guidelines.

You must have a high school diploma and 3 years of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding experience in acute care or professional services, with RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC/CIRCC or eligibility within 6 months.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding experience in inpatient or professional services.
  • Working knowledge of MS-DRGs, APCs, MPFS/RVUs, POA and HACs.
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, CIRCC or eligible to sit for certification within 6 months.
  • Proficiency with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding guidelines; encoder/EPIC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze documentation in the medical record to assign diagnoses and procedures.
  • Ensure codes align with AHIMA standards and official coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and revenue cycle teams to ensure accurate coding.

Inpatient Coding Specialist

Shift: Full-time, Days

Required Education

High school diploma

Preferred Education

A.S. from an accredited Health Information Technology program or B.S. from an accredited Health Information Management program.

Required Experience

3 years coding experience in ICD-10-CM diagnoses/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in the acute care inpatient/outpatient hospital or professional services setting.

Certifications

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) or completed within 6 months of employment.

Required Other

Working knowledge and high level of experience with the ICD-10-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems, MS-DRG's, APC's, MPFS/RVU's, POA's, and HAC's; dependent upon whether an IP, OP, or Professional Services Coder.

Preferred Other

Working knowledge of the 3M encoder and Epic preferred.
