Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking an experienced inpatient coder to join our Coding Quality Assurance team. The role focuses on validating ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, POA indicators, and discharge dispositions, with QA reviews of MHACs, HACs, PSIs and mortality.

The ideal candidate holds a CCS credential and has 1–2 years inpatient coding experience, plus auditing experience. We offer a supportive environment with strong benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years inpatient coding experience required.
• AHIMA CCS credential required.
• Auditing/quality review experience preferred.
• Strong communication and computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development of system-specific coding guidelines and participate in Quality review meetings.
• Direct efforts to improve coding accuracy per the compliance plan.
• Select areas for focused quality reviews.
• Meet quality, accuracy and productivity standards per policy.
• Provide feedback and identify training needs under the Manager's direction.
• Query clinicians to obtain complete documentation supporting severity and mortality risk.
• Perform retrospective reviews, assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and DRG as appropriate.
• Work with Coding Quality Review team to identify areas for improvement.
