Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum360 unit seeks a Clinical Document Improvement Specialist (CDS) to oversee CDI programs and implement inpatient documentation reviews. You will ensure the technical accuracy, specificity, and completeness of provider notes, reflecting all findings and conditions at the time of service.

This onsite role partners with physicians and care teams to drive education and improvements using the 3D CDI technology, improving data quality, coding accuracy, and revenue integrity

Qualifications

• 3+ years acute care hospital RN experience OR Medical Graduate with CDI experience and CDI certification (CCDS, CDIP)
• Proficiency using a PC in Windows with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and EMR systems
• Experience communicating and working closely with physicians
• Ability to work onsite

Responsibilities

• Provides expert level review of inpatient clinical records within 24–48 hours of admit and identifies gaps in documentation
• Conducts daily follow-up with providers to obtain needed documentation specificity
• Leads improvement efforts for documentation quality and accuracy with clear recommendations
• Communicates with physicians at all levels to clarify information and documentation requirements
• Leads physician education and training to improve clinical documentation
• Ensures effective use of CDI 3D technology and approved forms
• Coordinates with HIM Coding Professionals to reconsolidate DRGs and monitor queries
