Qualifications

• Associate’s degree and 7 years of inpatient CDIS experience or Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of CDIS experience.
• Certifications: CDIP or CCDS; CCS or CIC; CRC.
• Excellent communication and teamwork; ability to work with physicians, coders and nurses.
• Strong knowledge of documentation improvement practices and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient and/or outpatient records to ensure accurate representation of illness severity.
• Validate that clinical documentation supports medical necessity and accurate coding.
• Collaborate with physicians, coders, case managers, nurses, and staff to improve documentation quality.
• Act as an educator and resource to clinical staff, promoting best practices in documentation.
• Support audits, special projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
• May perform secondary mortality reviews and other reviews as needed.
• Maintain compliance with coding standards and regulatory requirements.
