Job summary

Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Counselor (MS) for a 24-bed adult inpatient unit in Bloomington, IN. You will conduct psychosocial assessments, provide individual/group/family counseling, and coordinate discharge planning with the care team to support patient recovery.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in a mental health field and is license-eligible in Indiana (LCSW/LMHC/LMFT/LCAC), with training in CBT, MI, DBT, crisis intervention and EMR

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a mental health field such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field is required.
• 0–3 years of relevant experience.
• License eligibility in Indiana as LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LCAC; must have permanent LSW/LMHC-A/LMFT-A on hire.
• Crisis intervention certification may be required.
• BL S certification may be required.
• Knowledge of CBT, MI, DBT; understanding of protective legal mandates; ability to use EMR and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates patient involvement in treatment and education.
• Performs functions of individual, group, and family counseling.
• Performs utilization review and discharge planning.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to ensure safe, timely services and resources for patients and families.
• Interprets patient/family needs and models caring practices for others.
• Assesses psychosocial risk factors and coping abilities of patients and families.
• Counsels patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness.
• Accesses family/community resources to meet identified needs.
• Provides mental health assessments upon physician referral.
• Provides intervention to facilitate complex discharge planning.
• Acts as liaison with protective teams as needed.
• Handles guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements.
