Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or institution
• Valid educator license in infant/primary special education (birth-grade 3) or eligible for conditional license
• Knowledge of federal laws protecting educational services for students with disabilities
• Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty
• Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and student needs
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
• Ability to move about the room to check student work and monitor behavior

Responsibilities

• Provides direct instructional services to students with disabilities based on their IEP.
• Assesses individual students for the purpose of implementing individual education programs.
• Develops and adapts instructional materials to meet students' needs within the district curriculum.
• Maintains records documenting progress of special education students.
• Establishes effective discipline and management procedures.
• Evaluates academic and social progress of students with disabilities.
• Serves on the IEP team and coordinates with families for ongoing support.
• Collaborates with school and non-school staff to maximize learning opportunities.
