Job summary

Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. in Mayodan, NC is seeking a Product Design Engineer to support new product development and ongoing improvements. The role focuses on design for manufacturability, cost reduction, and cross-functional collaboration from concept through production.

The ideal candidate has a mechanical engineering background, hands-on experience with SolidWorks, GD&T, DFMA, and DFMEA, and a track record of delivering robust, manufacturable solutions in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Strong GD&T understanding and tolerance analysis.
• Experience with DFMA and FMEA methods.
• Experience supporting products through full lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design line extensions and derivatives from concept to production release.
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks per standards.
• Apply GD&T to ensure manufacturability and inspectability.
• Perform tolerance stack-ups and CETOL analysis.
• Develop predictive models for mechanical motion.
• Lead DFMEA activities and DFMA initiatives.
• Support sustaining engineering and design updates.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain on issues.
• Manage engineering changes in PDM/ERP (e.g., Oracle).
• Prepare specifications, test plans, and reports.
• Assist prototype builds, testing, and validation.
• Interface with suppliers on cost reduction.
