Job summary

Cooley LLP seeks a motivated patent agent candidate with a strong software or computer science background to support patent counseling, prosecution, and litigation. You will work on prior art searches, analyze technical documents, and draft patent applications under attorney supervision.

Strong English communication skills and broad CS/EE knowledge are essential; AI/ML expertise is highly preferred. Eligibility for USPTO registration and law school tuition assistance are noted.

Qualifications

• Must have superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
• Broad scientific knowledge in computer science or electrical engineering is required; AI/ML expertise preferred.
• Eligible to sit for USPTO registration exam; meet requirements for patent agent registration.
• Law school tuition assistance is available to patent agent candidates.

Responsibilities

• Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
• Analyze patent and scientific papers to assist patent attorneys on prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
• Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
• Advise lawyers on technology issues in preparation for depositions.
