Cooley LLP seeks a highly motivated patent professional with a degree in software, computer science, or related field to join our busy patent counseling, prosecution, and litigation practice in Chicago.
The role involves conducting prior art searches, analyzing technical documents to assist patent attorneys, drafting patent applications and responses to office actions, and advising lawyers on technology issues for depositions.
Qualifications
- Must have superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
- Broad scientific knowledge in computer science or electrical engineering.
- Expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning is strongly preferred.
- Eligible to sit for USPTO registration exam and meet requirements for patent agent.
- Law school tuition assistance is available to patent agent candidates.
Responsibilities
- Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
- Analyze patent and scientific papers to assist patent attorneys on prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
- Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
- Advise lawyers on technology issues in preparation for depositions.
