Cooley LLP seeks a motivated patent agent candidate with a strong software or computer science background to support patent counseling, prosecution, and litigation. You will work on prior art searches, analyze technical documents, and draft patent applications under attorney supervision.
Strong English communication skills and broad CS/EE knowledge are essential; AI/ML expertise is highly preferred. Eligibility for USPTO registration and law school tuition assistance are noted.
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with substantive industry experience and a degree in software, computer science, or a related field to join our busy patent counseling, prosecution, and litigation practice.
Must have superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English. Broad scientific knowledge in computer science or electrical engineering is required and expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning is strongly preferred. The candidate must possess initiative, be a fast learner, work well with others, and be eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam. Candidates must otherwise meet the requirements for registration as a patent agent.
Law school tuition assistance is available to patent agent candidates.
Expected annual pay range: $125,000 - $228,000. Final offer amount will depend on geographic location, applicable experience, and skill set of the candidate.
