Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking a highly motivated patent professional with experience in patent counseling, prosecution, and litigation to join our Seattle team. The role focuses on analyzing prior art, drafting patent documents, and advising on technology issues for depositions.

Qualified candidates will have a strong software/CS or electrical engineering background and expertise in AI/ML, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and pursue USPTO registration.

Qualifications

• Must have superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
• Broad scientific knowledge in computer science or electrical engineering is required.
• Expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning is strongly preferred.
• Candidate must possess initiative, be a fast learner, work well with others, and be eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam.
• Candidates must otherwise meet the requirements for registration as a patent agent.

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with substantive industry experience and a degree in software, computer science, or a related field to join our busy patent counseling, prosecution, and litigation practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses;
• Analyze patent and scientific papers and documents to assist patent attorneys on patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation;
• Draft patent applications and responses to office actions;
• Advise lawyers on technology issues in preparation for depositions.

Qualifications

Law school tuition assistance is available to patent agent candidates.

Expected annual pay range: $125,000 - $228,000. Final offer amount will depend on geographic location, applicable experience, and skill set of the candidate.
