Job summary

ABB’s Distribution Solutions division in the US seeks an engineer to contribute to the development of non-arc and arc‑resistant medium‑voltage switchgear (Metal‑Enclosed, Metal‑Clad). You will collaborate with Product Managers, Project Managers and R&D Engineers to translate customer needs into robust designs.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Electrical engineering, at least 2 years in R&D, experience with MV ANSI switchgear, and proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of R&D experience in the electrical power equipment industry.
• Experience in the mechanical design of Low/Medium Voltage ANSI switchgear, Motor Control Centers, or similar equipment.
• Working knowledge of simulation software (Dielectric, thermal, structural).
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and PLM tools—SolidWorks or Creo with Windchill preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of non-arc and arc-resistant MV switchgear designs.
• Engage in cost optimization and design enhancements.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Project Managers, and R&D Engineers throughout the lifecycle.
• Validate product robustness through simulations, analyses, and testing.
• Prepare documentation including manuals, project records, and test reports.
