Job summary

Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science seeks a dedicated Middle School Mathematics Teacher to design and deliver standards-aligned, inquiry-driven instruction for grades 6–8, including pre-algebra and introductory algebra concepts. You will meet students where they are, close learning gaps, and challenge every learner to reason, solve problems, and communicate mathematically.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
• Valid teaching certification in mathematics or middle grades (or eligibility to obtain the appropriate license upon hire).
• Strong mathematics content knowledge across the middle-grades curriculum, including pre-algebra and algebra.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and to the belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
• Effective classroom management and the ability to build positive relationships with students and families.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned mathematics instruction for grades 6–8 (including pre-algebra and introductory algebra).
• Differentiate instruction and provide scaffolds to meet diverse learners, including students with IEPs and English learners.
• Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
• Collaborate with grade-level/content teams to align curriculum and share practices; communicate with families regularly.
