Job summary

Howard University Middle School of Math and Science in Washington, DC seeks a dedicated Special Education teacher to organize and implement a technology-based program guiding students with IEPs and 504 Plans to develop their academic potential.

Responsibilities include creating a classroom culture of achievement, delivering daily instruction aligned to standards, collaborating with general education teachers, and maintaining IDEA documentation. Strong communication with families is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Two years of Special Education teaching experience and results demonstrating high student achievement and significant growth are preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least ONE of the following: Successful completion of the content area ETS Praxis II Exam, Valid Special Education Teaching License, Degree in a content area.

Responsibilities

  • Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of their learning.
  • Support middle school students in their mathematics classes by collaborating with the general education teacher.
  • Provide daily instruction with clear learning outcomes, well-designed lessons, and high-quality assessments.
  • Incorporate creative, hands-on learning experiences aligned to curriculum and standards.
  • Maintain documentation related to IDEA, including progress notes, BIPs, and IEPs.
  • Communicate with families to update them on student progress.
