Job summary

Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School is seeking an English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher for the Middle School. The role focuses on direct ESL instruction, collaboration with content teachers, and ensuring ELs have equitable access to programs and services.

The ideal candidate will hold a MA ESL license with SEI endorsement, experience with multilingual learners, and a commitment to ongoing professional development within a district setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Experience working with multilingual students.
• Familiarity with MA Curriculum Frameworks and DESE regulations for English Learners.
• Massachusetts ESL Teaching License at the appropriate grade level.
• SEI Endorsement required.
• Authorized to work in the United States by start date.

Responsibilities

• Model the mission and core values of the school.
• Provide individualized, small group, and whole-group ESL instruction to English Learners.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align ESL instruction with language development and content.
• Coordinate with ESL Director and leadership to support ESL students.
• Administer state assessments such as ACCESS for ELLs and maintain records per DESE regulations.
• Attend and host parent conferences to discuss student progress.
• Participate in two parent workshops or events for family engagement.
• Attend required professional development to enhance ESL instruction.
• Stay current on ESL teaching methods and second language acquisition theories.
• Meet weekly with SEI teachers to plan lessons and assess progress.
• Use varied assessment tools to monitor student progress.
