Job summary

Birmingham Board of Education seeks an Elementary Teacher to join our team for a 9-month school year. The salary range is Certified Schedule 16 (Level 1-4), $49,080 to $93,875, depending on degree level recognized by ALSDE.

The role focuses on creating a learning environment aligned with system values and objectives, delivering instruction with appropriate resources, and applying research-based practices to meet diverse student needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate.
• Must meet ESSA federal and state requirements or willingness to meet them.

Responsibilities

• Utilize technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
• Model appropriate and innovative use of technology for students
• Facilitate and monitor the integration of technology in the classroom
• Provide modifications for students with special needs, including ELL and exceptional education students
• Select, develop, modify and/or adapt materials and resources which support learning objectives
• Establish routines and uses appropriate behavior management procedures
• Participate in administration of local and state testing as assigned
• Use formative and summative assessment to monitor student progress; interpret and use data for instructional planning and program evaluation
• Communicate high learning expectations for all students and establish learning targets related to real-world experiences
• Use techniques to enhance critical, creative and evaluative thinking
• Provide instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment
• Foster responsible, respectful behavior and cultural diversity
• Supervise and/or assist with extracurricular activities
• Support school improvement initiatives through active participation
• Engage in professional growth and adhere to standards and ethics
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters
• Demonstrate initiative for improvement
• Maintain and submit reports and records timely
• Care for equipment and materials
• Adhere to school rules and policies
• Report absences and prepare substitutes as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
