Job summary

PDI is seeking a Packaging Specialist, Discovery & Innovation in Woodcliff Lake, NJ to lead upstream packaging innovation, translate ideas into testable concepts, prototypes, and learning plans that feed the R&D pipeline.

You will work with scientists and engineers to assess feasibility, manage rapid prototyping, and deliver clear, decision-ready outputs for stage-gate decisions while driving cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS in Packaging Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 3–6 years in packaging engineering, materials development, or innovation-focused R&D.
• Experience with prototyping, testing, or concept evaluation.
• Experience in regulated environments (FDA, EPA, medical device, pharma, or consumer healthcare).

Responsibilities

• Lead upstream packaging innovation by developing and advancing early-stage concepts that align with PDI's future platforms and strategic priorities.
• Transform consumer insights and market signals into actionable designs and solutions, using strong commercial and technical judgement.
• Engage with suppliers, startups, and academic institutions to leverage external innovation and explore novel materials and technologies.
• Curate and oversee a balanced portfolio of opportunities across time horizons, ensuring alignment with the Discovery & Innovation roadmap.
