Utah Tech University is seeking a Software Engineer within the Parkspass team to lead design, development, and maintenance of web and mobile applications, payment and reservation systems, and integrations.

The role reports to the Director of Parkspass and Innovation Labs, serving as a senior technical member, setting engineering standards, and mentoring junior developers and interns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; combination of education and experience may substitute.
• Two years internship or job experience required; four+ years preferred in software development.
• Front-end technologies: JavaScript, CSS3, HTML5, React/Angular/Vue.
• Server-side: Python, Node.js, Go, or PHP.
• APIs, integrations with payment services, and external systems.
• Databases: MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
• Cloud, web servers, Linux environments, and security basics.
• SEO, network diagnostics, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of secure, scalable web and mobile apps for passes, reservations, payments, and visitor services.
• Architect APIs and integrations with payment processors, state systems, and partners.
• Develop and maintain front-end and back-end components.
• Build and maintain inventory apps for DABS.
• Integrate apps with merchant and payment services like Stripe or Authorize.net.
• Implement authentication and SSO; enforce engineering standards.
• Mentor junior developers and student interns; guide technical direction.
• Monitor, optimize, and support production systems for performance and security.

Position Announcement

Located within Utah Tech University's Innovation Labs at AtwoodInnovation Plaza, the Parkspass program operates the digitalrecreation infrastructure for Utah's 46 state parks under contractwith the Utah Division of State Parks. Parkspass is seeking aSoftware Engineer to lead the design, development, and maintenanceof the platform's web and mobile applications, payment andreservation systems, and integrations. This position reports to theDirector of Parkspass and Innovation Labs and serves as a seniortechnical member of the software team, setting engineeringstandards and mentoring junior developers and studentinterns.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of secure, scalable web andmobile applications supporting recreation passes, reservations,payments, and visitor services.


• Architect and build application programming interfaces (APIs)and integrations connecting Parkspass systems with paymentprocessors, state systems, and partner agencies.


• Develop and maintain both front-end and back-end componentsacross the platform.


• Develop and maintain the inventory mobile and web applicationfor the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS).


• Integrate secure applications with merchant and paymentservices, including transaction processing and reconciliationfeeds.


• Design, implement, and maintain authentication and singlesign-on (SSO) capabilities.


• Establish and enforce engineering standards, including codereview, testing, security, and documentation practices.


• Mentor junior developers and student interns and providetechnical guidance across projects.


• Monitor, optimize, and support production systems forperformance, reliability, and security.


• Perform routine site audits, ongoing maintenance, andtechnology innovation across multiple web properties on anas-needed basis.


• Maintain communication with team members and supervisorsregarding technical direction and project status.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software development, computer science,software engineering, web development, or a related field required.A combination of relevant education and experience may besubstituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-yearbasis.


• Two years of related internship or job experience required;four or more years of software development experience, orexperience working with state or national government agencies,strongly preferred. The total qualifications required are basedon a combination of education and work experience. Any experienceused to meet the education requirement cannot also be used to meetthe work experience requirement.


• Expertise in front-end technologies, including JavaScript,CSS3, and HTML5, and modern frameworks such as React, Angular, orVue.


• Proficiency with server-side languages such as Python, Node.js,Go, or PHP.


• Experience designing and consuming APIs and integratingthird-party services.


• Familiarity with database technologies, including MongoDB,MySQL, or PostgreSQL.


• Experience connecting applications to merchant and paymentservices such as Stripe or Authorize.net.


• Experience with cloud platforms and services (for example, AWSor Cloudflare), open-source web servers such as Apache or Nginx,and Linux/Unix environments.


• Knowledge of UI/UX principles and basic prototype design.


• Understanding of application security, authentication, andsingle sign-on.


• Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices forpublic-facing applications preferred.


• Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical toolspreferred.


• Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor other developers,and work both independently and as part of a team.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-timeovertime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $72,000-$76,000,depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date ofSeptember 2026.
