Job summary

Utah Tech University seeks a Field Operations Manager to install and maintain networked field technology across Utah’s state park system. You will oversee field operations, fulfillment, and hourly staff supporting cameras, kiosks, payment terminals, digital signage, and edge devices.

You will collaborate with Parkspass engineers, coordinate pilots with park managers, and travel statewide to install and support systems. A relevant degree and hands-on field experience are required.

Position Announcement

Located within Utah Tech University's Innovation Labs at AtwoodInnovation Plaza, the Parkspass program operates the digitalrecreation infrastructure for Utah's 46 state parks under contractwith the Utah Division of State Parks. Parkspass is seeking a FieldOperations Manager to install, administer, and maintain networkedfield technology systems across the state park system, and tomanage the field operations, fulfillment, and hourly staffsupporting those systems. The position is the primary informationtechnology presence at park sites statewide, spanning camerasystems, self-service kiosks, payment terminals, digital signage,visitor-counting instrumentation, and edge-computing equipment.This position reports to the Director of Parkspass and InnovationLabs, supervises student and hourly employees, and coordinatesdirectly with park managers and staff across Utah's three parkregions.

Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and administer networked field systemsacross remote park sites statewide, including IP camera systems,self-service kiosks, payment terminals, digital signage platforms,visitor-counting sensors, and edge-computing devices runningcomputer vision applications.
  • Administer cloud-based device management platforms, includingcamera services, digital signage content management systems, andkiosk fleet management tools; monitor device health remotely andapply configuration and firmware updates.
  • Perform network diagnostics, connectivity troubleshooting, andrepair across cellular, wireless, and wired infrastructure atlocations without on-site information technology support.
  • Deploy, configure, and support point-of-sale and paymentsystems statewide; train park and museum staff on system operationand transaction workflows.
  • Serve as the escalation point for park staff and visitorsexperiencing technical issues with Parkspass systems, resolvingproblems beyond the scope of front-line staff.
  • Collaborate directly with the Parkspass software engineeringteam on platform products, including field testing, defectreporting, and product feedback informed by on-siteoperations.
  • Oversee visitor pass fulfillment operations, includingproduction, inventory, and distribution of physical passes andcredentials, and investigation and resolution of fulfillmentexceptions and delivery failures across systems.
  • Supervise student and hourly employees supporting fulfillmentand field operations; review and manage timesheets for hourlystaff.
  • Coordinate onboarding of new interns and student employees indirect partnership with University Human Resources.
  • Plan and coordinate deployments and pilots with park managersand staff statewide, including scheduling, site preparation, andinstallation.
  • Conduct field data collection and geographic information system(GIS) work, including GPS-tagging of park amenities and mapping ofpark infrastructure.
  • Manage equipment inventory and maintain accurate records ofdeployed assets and field service activity.
  • Travel regularly to state parks across all regions to supportinstallations and ongoing operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science,engineering technology, geographic information systems, business,or a related field required. A combination of relevant educationand experience may be substituted for the educational requirementon a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years of related internship or job experience required;experience deploying or administering networked hardware systems,managing field or multi-site technical operations, or working withstate or national government agencies preferred. The totalqualifications required are based on a combination of education andwork experience. Any experience used to meet the educationrequirement cannot also be used to meet the work experiencerequirement.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and maintainingnetworked hardware such as IP cameras, kiosks, payment terminals,sensors, digital signage, networking equipment, or similardevices.
  • Working knowledge of network diagnostics, connectivitytroubleshooting, and basic system administration, including remotedevice management platforms.
  • Experience supporting point-of-sale or payment systems andtraining end users preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage operations acrossmultiple sites, including scheduling, logistics, and inventorymanagement.
  • Experience supervising employees or student workers, includingtimekeeping or onboarding responsibilities, preferred.
  • Experience with GIS tools and GPS data collectionpreferred.
  • Ability to travel frequently to remote park locations and towork outdoors in variable field conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to lift and moveequipment required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail ininventory and record-keeping.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with theability to work independently and as part of a team.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Full-timeovertime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $62,000-$65,000depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date ofSeptember 2026.
