Overview
Food Runners assist servers, supervisors, and kitchen staff in providing quality food and beverage service to guests courteously and efficiently. Primary duties include pulling and organizing orders, traying up, and delivering food to guests. Additional duties include general support for servers, hosts, supervisors, and bartenders, stocking and maintaining condiments and other items requested by guests, and maintaining the cleanliness of the dining room, side stations, kitchen service areas, dish breakdown area, and service equipment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the correct food items promptly and accurately to the appropriate guests.
- Offer appropriate condiments table side with courses, e.g., fresh ground pepper.
- Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly, and maintain positive guest relations at all times.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.
- Communicate guest requests to servers, kitchen staff, and/or bartenders.
- Maintain knowledge of table and seat numbers, section assignments, proper table set-up, hours of operation, and dress code of the restaurant.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all service and kitchen procedures, sanitation and food safety regulations, established standards, and department policies and procedures.
- Be familiar with Biltmore services, features, activities, and special events to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Comply with Biltmore and state liquor regulations, particularly prohibiting service to minors and intoxicated persons.
Additional Responsibilities
- Side-work: Ensure a sufficient supply of clean trays; assist in folding napkins; set up tray jacks in appropriate areas; assist servers, DRAs, and bartenders with side work and removal of soiled trays, glassware, dishes, and flatware from the floor as needed.
- Closing duties: Properly breakdown and store reusable goods and serviceware per department standards; clean all equipment and work areas; restock items for next service.
- Provide general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and the company as required.
Qualifications
- Previous guest/customer service experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have knowledge or prior experience working in a full-service restaurant.
- Commitment to delivering world-class guest service and the ability to work successfully as part of a dynamic, guest-service oriented team.
- Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to perform essential job functions with speed and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative as appropriate.
- Should be able to anticipate and understand guest needs, and follow up with them appropriately.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and exercise good judgment.
Physical Requirements
- Lift, carry, push and pull 25–50 pounds; lift and carry 25–50 pounds on a large serving tray, above shoulder level, with one hand.
- Endure various physical movements (stand/walk, kneel, stoop, bend, reach overhead) throughout work areas and for the duration of the shift.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work both inside and outdoors in an environment that may include variable temperature and weather conditions, noise levels, fumes, dust and chemicals.
