Job summary

Columbus Consolidated Government seeks an experienced supervisor to oversee inmate labor assigned to the public works stormwater program. You will manage an inmate crew, ensure safety, and supervise construction and maintenance tasks in drainage projects.

The role requires knowledge of stormwater systems, adherence to Department of Corrections guidelines, and strong communication. A valid driver’s license is preferred; duties include transport of inmates as needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of stormwater drainage system principles, maintenance, and repair.
• Knowledge of relevant Georgia Department of Corrections guidelines and laws pertaining to incarceration.
• Knowledge of First Aid and CPR principles.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in stormwater work.
• Ability to implement policies and procedures.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to supervise inmate labor and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Supervises an assigned crew of inmates and provides security for inmates and the public.
• Supervises ditch cutting and cleaning activities.
• Oversees repair of erosion problems by placing clay and filter fabric.
• Oversees cave-ins repairs on storm drain systems.
• Oversees wall repairs and pipe installations or replacements.
• Oversees removal of trees from storm drains and grading of ditch lines.
• Oversees placement of check dams and tri-locks.
• Oversees landscaping where pipes have been laid.
• Assists division work crews as needed.
• Checks inmates for contraband; conducts inmate census.
• Drives inmate transport vehicle.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
