Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a capable administrator in the Inmate Grievance Branch to manage a range of administrative duties and oversee fair grievance processing. You will conduct interviews with inmates and staff, analyze information, and issue decisions at steps 1 and 2, while reviewing policies and related documents.

The role requires completing four weeks of basic training upon hire and leveraging experience in clerical or investigative work within a corrections context to resolve issues

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or relevant program experience.
• Four years of responsible clerical, secretarial or administrative experience, preferably in a correctional or law enforcement setting.
• A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
• Experience in personal computer use, leadership, law enforcement/paralegal/research or investigations.

Responsibilities

• Investigates grievances by conducting thorough and impartial inquiries through interviews with inmates and staff.
• Analyzes information obtained and prepares recommendations to resolve issues at the lowest possible level.
• Reviews SCDC policies, statutes, disciplinary tapes, and related grievance documentation.
• Interprets rules, regulations, policies and procedures for day-to-day operations and grievance procedures; accepts and forwards appeals to central office; issues step 1 and step 2 decisions.
