Job summary

Marion County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Detention Deputy I to oversee custody, control and care of inmates within an adult detention facility. The role covers reception, movement, counts, searches and supervision of inmates, with duties ranging from escorting inmates to hearings to responding to emergencies.

Applicants must be at least 18, have a high school diploma or GED, and maintain CJSTC certification.

Qualifications

• Maintain sworn officer certification as required by CJSTC.
• Must complete firearms/training per agency policy.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• Must communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Able to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Abide by the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and agency procedures.
• Maintain custody, control, and release of inmates; supervise movements and visits.
• Perform counts, inspections, and searches to prevent contraband.
• Escort inmates to hearings, medical facilities, or other locations.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain order within the facility.
