Job summary

Sjso seeks a Corrections Deputy to provide care, custody, and control of inmates at the St. Johns County Detention Center. The role requires responding to offender needs while ensuring safety and security per agency policy and Florida standards.

Positions include varied assignments such as Booking, Courthouse Security, and Main Detention Unit, with 12-hour shifts, overtime, and physical demands. Compliance with requirements is essential.

Qualifications

• 18 years or older and eligible to work in the U.S.
• Valid Florida driver’s license is required.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• CJSTC Corrections Certificate is required.
• No dishonorable discharge from any branch of the Armed Forces.
• No felony or perjury/misconduct convictions.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmates within housing units
• Instruct inmates to keep up with housekeeping and sanitation
• Periodically patrol inmate quarters and work areas
• Initiate counts of inmates at regular and irregular intervals
• Maintain control and discipline
• Prepare and maintain detailed reports and logs
• Enter and retrieve data from computer terminals
• Prevent the introduction of contraband into the facility
• Check inmates and their property for contraband
• Patrol the inside and outside of the facility to ensure the security and integrity of the facility
• Monitor and supervise inmate visitations
• Observe traffic in and around the facility
• Maintain control of all areas of the facility, including the food service area, the recreation yard, etc.
• Occasionally testify in court
• All other duties assigned

Education

18 years or older

Valid Florida Driver License

High School Diploma or GED

CJSTC Corrections Certificate

Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from any branch of the Armed Forces

Must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
