Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a staff member to evaluate inmate records, coordinate classification, and conduct progress reviews within a structured institutional setting.

The role includes interviewing inmates, counseling on institutional adjustment, and handling information requests from officials and agencies. Training and a focus on accuracy are essential for maintaining records and classifications.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree may be substituted by related experience.
• Associate’s degree plus 1 year administrative and/or correctional experience.
• High school diploma plus 2 years administrative and/or correctional experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate inmate's records to determine eligibility for institutional assignments, custody changes, and employment and treatment programs.
• Coordinate and implement an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conduct periodic reviews and evaluate inmate's progress.
• Interview inmates, discuss and record progress made on a periodic basis.
• Counsel with inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Respond orally and/or through written correspondence to inquiries of information on inmates by departmental officials and other agencies.
• Operate the computer to ascertain information pertaining to inmates social, criminal, educational and family histories.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Associate’s degree with 1 year related experience

High school diploma with 2 years related experience
