• Familiarize crew with cargo hazards among towed barges.
• Verify lifesaving equipment, fire detection, and firefighting systems.
• Organize training, drills, and exercises for the crew.
• Ensure vessel manning and watch schedules are adequate.
• Maintain professional relationships with customers and port personnel.
• Prepare vessel and crew for emergency responses.
