Job summary

Airspeed is seeking an experienced Plastic Injection Mold Tool Technician to join our manufacturing team in Mebane, NC. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair injection molds, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency to minimize downtime and sustain product quality.

The role requires hands-on mold tooling experience, ability to work with molding presses, and strong mechanical aptitude. This on-site position offers full-time hours and a start-to-finish tooling focus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Hands-on experience with plastic injection molds, tooling maintenance, or closely related work.
• Able to independently perform mold installations, removals, and changeovers.
• Knowledge of injection mold construction, components, clamping, ejection, alignment, and cooling systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical tooling problems and assess impact on production and quality.
• Proficient with hand/tools, precision instruments, and reading drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Independently install, remove, position, align, and secure injection molds in molding presses.
• Perform mold changeovers safely and efficiently to support production schedules.
• Conduct preventive maintenance: mold cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and component replacement.
• Diagnose and fix mold problems: sticking parts, ejection failures, cooling limits, excessive flash.
• Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble molds; replace pins, springs, inserts, slides, lifters, bushings.
• Connect/disconnect cooling, pneumatic, hydraulic mold utilities.
• Inspect molds for wear, damage, leaks, and alignment issues.
• Maintain records of changeovers, inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Follow safety procedures including lockout/tagout and lifting practices.
