Injection Molding Tooling Maintenance SpecialistLocation: Mebane, North Carolina | Company: AirspeedA day in this roleYou start your shift with a preventive maintenance lineup: inspecting a multi-cavity mold coming off a press, logging wear notes, and prepping the next tool for a tight production window. By mid-morning, you’ve rigged, aligned, and clamped a mold into an injection press, connected water and pneumatics, and verified ejection alignment. A part begins to stick—your troubleshooting kicks in. You diagnose a worn ejector and clear a cooling restriction, then replace pins, reassemble, and validate the fix. Throughout the day, you team up with Molding Technicians, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to keep uptime high and quality consistent. Before clocking out, you document every changeover, inspection, and repair, label and store tools properly, and ensure the floor is safe and ready for the next run. What you’ll doIndependently install, remove, position, align, and secure plastic injection molds in presses.Perform efficient, safe changeovers to meet production schedules.Execute preventive maintenance: cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and replacement of worn/damaged components.Diagnose and correct mechanical mold issues (sticking parts, ejection failures, cooling restrictions, flash, and other tooling defects).Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble molds; replace ejector pins, springs, inserts, slides, lifters, guide pins, bushings.Connect/disconnect cooling, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other utilities.Inspect for wear, damage, leaks, and alignment concerns affecting production or quality.Clean, protect, label, and store molds between runs.Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve tooling problems and reduce downtime.Maintain accurate records of changeovers, inspections, maintenance, repairs, and component replacements.Follow established safety procedures including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and proper lifting/rigging.What you bringHigh school diploma or GED.Hands-on experience with plastic injection molds or tooling maintenance.Proven ability to perform installations, removals, changeovers, and routine mechanical repairs independently.Working knowledge of mold construction, clamping, ejection, alignment, and cooling systems.Ability to troubleshoot tooling problems and understand production/quality impacts.Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and mechanical drawings.Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with production/technical teams.Preferred2+ years in injection mold setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair.Experience disassembling/reassembling molds and replacing components.Familiarity with molding defects and their mechanical root causes.Experience with cranes, hoists, forklifts, or similar equipment.Technical training in injection molding, mold maintenance, tool and die, or industrial maintenance.Compensation and benefitsCompany-paid medical, dental, and life insurance401(k) with company matchPaid vacation and paid holidaysFull-time, first-shift schedule, Monday–FridayWork environment and physical requirementsOn-site manufacturing setting around injection presses, industrial machinery, heavy tooling, and heated equipment.Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.Lift up to 50 lbs; heavier items are moved with approved lifting equipment or team assistance.Follow established safety procedures and wear required PPE.Occasional overtime or schedule adjustments based on production needs.Join AirspeedIf you take pride in precise tooling work, thrive with minimal supervision, and keep manufacturing running safely and efficiently, we’d like to hear from you.You should be proficient inTool/Die/Mold Repair SkillsInjection Molding Experience
