Job summary

The Ohio Department of Children and Youth in Columbus, OH is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist 2 to support and maintain the statewide technology environment. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and collaboration with peers and customers in a multi-domain IT setting.

The position is on-site, full-time, with a standard 8:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule, and union affiliation OCSEA. Candidates should have deep Exchange/O365 expertise and comfort with security monitoring and documentation.

Location Requirements

DCY’s core hours of operation are Mon-Fri from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across DCY divisions.Employees may begin as early as 7:00am & as late as 9:00am, based on supervisory approval. Job Description

As an Infrastructure Specialist 2, you will play a key role in supporting and maintaining the technology environment for the Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY). This position operates across multiple technology domains, requires strong problem solving skills, and involves both independent work and collaboration with peers and customers.

What You Will Do

• Administer, troubleshoot, and support Exchange and O365 services, including mail flow, mailbox configuration, distribution groups, permissions.
• Install, configure, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and administer multiple technology platforms and systems.
• Process and administer DCY - MECM software packages and requests, ensuring timely delivery and proper configuration.
• Diagnose, analyze, and resolve technical issues across assigned technology domains; provide support directly to customers.
• Create, organize, and maintain technical documentation that supports ongoing operations and knowledge sharing.
• Review and monitor enterprise security systems; respond to alerts and alarms according to agency policies (including anti virus and spam systems).
• Interface across various hardware and software platforms to ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability.
• Provide informal mentorship to peers or lower level staff through conversation, observation, or clear technical documentation.
• Demonstrate a full understanding of duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities required at lower levels, applying them as needed at higher technical complexity.

Work Environment & Expectations

• You may be placed on call 24/7, depending on operational needs.
• You may be required to carry and respond to an agency cellular phone.
• Travel may be required. You must provide your own transportation or have a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle.
• The work involves balancing project responsibilities, daily operational tasks, and unexpected urgent issues that may arise.
• You’ll interact with both technical and non technical staff, requiring clear communication and patience.
• This role offers opportunities to grow your technical skill set across multiple domains and contribute to secure, reliable statewide services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of O365 and Exchange administration
• Experience with Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) or similar identity lifecycle management tools
• Familiarity with Netskope or comparable web filtering solutions
• Proficiency with MECM, Software Center deployments, and endpoint configuration
• Skill in managing file permissions (NTFS, shared drives, access control)
• Strong documentation habits to support continuity and knowledge sharing
• Effective written and verbal communication with technical and non technical staff
• Experience performing file restores using enterprise backup/recovery systems
• Ability to administer Adobe Admin Console and Visual Studio Admin Console
• Understanding of ReCaptcha or similar anti bot security tools
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across systems and applications
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a high demand environment
• Experience using job scheduling tools such as JAMS
• Willingness to cross train and support critical operations across IT teams

Pay Information

Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be step 1 of the salary range associated with this position. New hires advance to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Based on collective bargaining and legislative activity, there may be cost of living increases awarded annually. Additional longevity supplements begin after 5 years. The current wage progression for this position is in the table below.

Qualifications
