Job summary

PlanIT Group, LLC in New Albany, OH is seeking a seasoned telecom/structured cabling technician to install, test, service, and decommission low voltage systems in data centers.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on experience, leadership ability, and certification readiness; you will read blueprints and ensure safe, quality-focused work, following NEC/ANSI/TIA/EIA/BICSI standards. A valid driver’s license is needed; OSHA10/First Aid within 90 days preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting low voltage cabling systems.
• Experience reading blueprints and construction drawings.
• Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, TIA, EIA and BICSI standards.
• OSHA10 and First Aid/CPR certifications preferred; must obtain within 90 days.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring junior technicians.
• Ability to install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber cabling.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, service, and decommission structured cabling systems including fiber and copper.
• Build and remove cabinets, racks, cable trays, and data center pathways.
• Read blueprints and construction drawings to ensure correct installations.
• Lead teams, mentor junior techs, and ensure safe, quality-focused execution.
• Maintain compliance with NEC, ANSI, TIA, EIA and BICSI standards.

Job description

• 3-5 years of telecom/structured cabling experience (data center experience a strong plus).
• Install, test, service, and decommission structured cabling systems including fiber optics, copper, communications, and other low voltage systems.
• Build and remove cabinets, racks, cable trays, pathways, and related data center infrastructure.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
• OSHA10 preferred (must obtain within 90 days).
• First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days.
• FOA certifications, BICSI cabling certifications, or similar credentials preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• 5+ years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting low voltage cabling systems
• Previous experience leading teams, mentors junior techs, and ensures safe, quality focused execution
• Proven ability to install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber systems
• Experience with major manufacturers (Panduit, CommScope, Corning, Leviton, etc.) preferred
• Understanding of NEC, ANSI, TIA, EIA, and BICSI standards
• Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• BICSI Technician Certification highly desired
• OSHA10 preferred (must obtain within 90 days).
• First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days.
• Required Tools - Snips, basic hand tools, steel/composite toe boots, VFL (preferred), cordless drill/impact, pliers, testers, punch tools, tape measure, level, flashlight/headlamp, and more.
