Job summary

Boise Cascade Company is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the Corporate IT Infrastructure team in Boise, Idaho. The role focuses on planning, implementing, and maintaining enterprise infrastructure both on-premises and in cloud environments.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, plan, design, install, maintain, manage, coordinate, and integrate network, server, storage and voice infrastructure on-premise and in cloud
  • Provide technical leadership and promote teamwork within Corporate IT infrastructure
  • Implement and maintain ITOM capabilities (ServiceNow) including discovery, service mapping, event management and CMDB
  • Maintain accurate CMDB data and document infrastructure ownership and relationships
  • Develop system documentation and automation scripts to support routine tasks
  • Determine best hardware and software configurations for infrastructure
  • Review changes to ensure security policy compliance and implement technical controls
  • Maintain operating systems with current service packs and security patches
  • Monitor and respond to user problems using diagnostic tools and identify root causes
  • Maintain disaster recovery documentation and integrate DR needs into system design
  • Coordinate with vendors for support and issue resolutions
  • Participate in 24/7 Infrastructure on-call rotation
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Description

Bring your IT experience to Boise Cascade as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer! You will work on the Infrastructure Team of our Corporate IT Department and report to the Infrastructure Services Manager.

*This position is on site at the corporate office in Boise, Idaho

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, plan, design, install, maintain, manage, coordinate, and integrate network, server, storage and voice infrastructure components on-premise and in the public cloud required to support operations throughout the corporation on an enterprise and site-by-site basis.
  • Provide technical and interpersonal leadership, promoting accountability, innovation and teamwork within the Corporate IT infrastructure team to deliver results. Work with other areas of IT to insure current and/or planned applications and databases are supported across the infrastructure.
  • Implement and maintain ServiceNow IT Operations Management (ITOM) capabilities, including configuration management, service mapping, event management, and discovery, to improve visibility and operational support across enterprise infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data, ensuring infrastructure components, dependencies, ownership, and relationships are documented and aligned with operational standards.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of network, server, storage and cloud technologies.
  • Develop documentation on system specification and operating instructions. Develop scripts to assist in automation of routine tasks, alerts and notifications.
  • Determine best systems software and hardware configurations, ensuring hardware and software suitability.
  • Review changes to IT systems to ensure compliance with security standards. Recommend and coordinate the implementation of technical controls to support and enforce defined security policies. Assist in designing, implementing and enforcing security polices to protect systems and data from access by unauthorized individuals.
  • Maintain operating systems across all infrastructure components with current service packs and security packages.
  • Monitor and respond to user problems using diagnostic/monitoring tools, identifies root cause, recommends solutions, coordinates repair/resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date disaster recovery documentation and procedures and incorporates disaster recovery needs in the design and configuration of system architecture.
  • Interface with vendors of assigned systems and/or equipment providers to ensure problem resolution and required level of support is provided.
  • Participate in 24/7 Infrastructure Department on-call rotation.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • College Degree, or equivalent work experience in related job function
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in related job function, or advanced degree and / or superior technical skills
  • 5+ Years of Experience on VMWare vSphere
  • 5+ Years of Experience on Cisco Networking (Route, Switch, NXOS & Wireless)
  • 5+ Years of Experience Storage Area Network (SAN) Management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Information Systems/MIS, Computer Science, or Networking degree or associated experience/certifications
  • Experience on Palo Alto Networks
  • Experience with ServiceNow ITOM, including Discovery, Service Mapping, Event Management, and CMDB administration or data-quality practices.
  • Experience developing or maintaining infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Python, or comparable automation technologies.
