Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft Exchange, Exchange Online, and PowerShell automation to support a large-scale enterprise email migration initiative within BNY's Technology Services Group. The ideal candidate is a self‑driven engineer who thrives in large‑scale migration projects, can quickly analyze complex environments, and enjoys automating manual processes through scripting. This is a 12‑month contract based in either Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL, requiring four days of onsite work per week. The engineer will join a collaborative Agile team responsible for enterprise email engineering, automation, and migration efforts supporting over 1,500 users.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the assessment, planning, and execution of large-scale Microsoft Exchange and Exchange Online migrations, ensuring minimal disruption while integrating legacy environments into BNY's enterprise Microsoft 365 platform.
- Design and develop PowerShell scripts to automate mailbox provisioning, permissions management, migration tasks, reporting, and other administrative functions, reducing manual effort and improving operational efficiency.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize Exchange Online, SMTP mail flow, routing, hybrid connectivity, and Microsoft 365 messaging services while maintaining secure and reliable email operations.
- Independently analyze complex technical challenges, research solutions, and develop scalable automation to standardize processes across multiple business units.
- Partner with infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and engineering teams during two‑week Agile sprints to deliver migration milestones, participate in technical working sessions, and support enterprise modernization initiatives.
- Utilize Splunk to analyze email logs, identify migration issues, monitor system health, and assist with troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
- Implement and maintain email security configurations, transport rules, encryption standards, and data loss prevention controls to support secure enterprise messaging.
- Contribute to process optimization by identifying opportunities for automation, repeatable workflows, and improved migration methodologies throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of infrastructure engineering experience supporting Microsoft messaging environments within large enterprise organizations.
- Recent hands‑on experience supporting migrations involving 1,000+ users or enterprise‑scale Microsoft 365 implementations.
- Strong expertise with Microsoft Exchange, Exchange Online, SMTP mail flow, and Microsoft 365 administration.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting experience, including Exchange modules, automation, loops, error handling, and administrative scripting.
- Experience troubleshooting mail routing, hybrid messaging environments, and enterprise email infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of Splunk for log analysis and operational troubleshooting.
- Experience working in Agile environments with Jira or similar project management tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and make technical decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience (preferred).
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Entra ID (Azure AD), and broader Microsoft 365 collaboration services.
- Experience with .NET or integrating PowerShell with APIs, SQL, or other automation frameworks.
- Exposure to AI‑assisted development tools such as Windsurf or similar coding assistants.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 security, compliance, email encryption, DLP, and governance solutions.
- Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, or cloud technology certifications (a plus).
Pay Rate Range
69.6 – 87 USD hourly
