Job Summary:

We are seeking a Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer to support a large-scale infrastructure upgrade initiative focused on VMware vSphere 8 and critical vulnerability patching. This role is essential to maintaining the security, stability, and compliance of our virtualized environments. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in infrastructure maintenance, virtualization upgrades, and hardware support across VMware, Cisco UCS, and Dell systems.

This is a part-time, remote contract role expected to last 6-9 months, with the possibility of extension. The position requires 25–30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends, particularly Friday evenings through Sunday mornings, to support maintenance windows and minimize operational disruption. The selected engineer will work closely with cross-functional infrastructure teams to ensure timely execution of upgrades aligned with MRIA deadlines. The role will support second/third-shift operations (11:00 AM – 8:00 PM ET & 8:00 PM - 7:00 AM ET) to align with scheduled maintenance windows and ensure efficient handoffs during after-hours infrastructure activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• VMware vSphere 8 Upgrades: Perform and support upgrade tasks related to VMware vSphere infrastructure across Cisco UCS and Dell hardware environments.
• Maintenance Execution: Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to conduct proactive maintenance, reduce vulnerabilities, and maintain compliance with internal security standards.
• Root Cause Analysis: Conduct initial diagnostics and resolve common issues within the virtual infrastructure stack; escalate advanced technical problems as necessary.
• Infrastructure Expansion: Support hardware and virtualization expansion activities, ensuring appropriate configuration and system compatibility.
• Weekend & After-Hours Work: Support scheduled maintenance windows, particularly during evenings and weekends, with flexibility to adjust shifts based on evolving operational needs.
• Collaboration & Documentation: Engage cross-functional teams, contribute to infrastructure documentation, and support internal tracking systems including ServiceNow.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Strong experience in managing and troubleshooting VMware vSphere environments (versions 6.7, 7, and 8)
• Proficient in identifying and resolving hardware and virtualization issues in enterprise environments
• Hands-on experience working with Cisco UCS and/or Dell hardware platforms
• Ability to work independently during off-hours while staying aligned with broader infrastructure teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  
  

Preferred Experience:

• Managing and remediating hardware-related incidents across Cisco UCS and Dell systems
• Experience performing triage and root cause analysis in complex enterprise environments
• Familiarity with scripting using PowerShell/PowerCLI
• Exposure to ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools
• Knowledge of vulnerability management and patching best practices in regulated industries
