Job summary

American Century Investments is seeking a motivated Infrastructure Automation Engineer Intern to join our Infrastructure & Operations team in Kansas City, MO. The program focuses on automation, reliability, and reducing manual work in an enterprise IT setting, with AI applications across our technology landscape.

Open to currently enrolled undergraduate rising seniors who graduate in December 2027 - Spring 2028, the 10-week program runs June 2–August 6, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• Incoming senior enrolled in an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of infrastructure components (servers, networks, virtualization, cloud platforms).
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle and APIs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, development, and deployment of automation scripts and tools for infrastructure operations.
• Collaborate with team to identify repetitive tasks and propose automation solutions.
• Support monitoring and alerting systems to improve visibility into infrastructure health.
• Participate in infrastructure projects involving cloud services, virtualization, networking, and server management.
• Document processes, automation workflows, and configurations.

Role Summary

We’re looking for a motivated, tech-savvy Infrastructure Automation Engineer Intern to join our Infrastructure & Operations team, with a focus on driving automation initiatives. This internship offers hands‑on experience in an enterprise IT environment, where you’ll collaborate with experienced professionals to streamline operations, improve system reliability, and reduce manual processes through innovative automation solutions. As an AI‑forward organization, American Century Investments is committed to finding innovative ways to apply artificial intelligence across our technology landscape. As an Infrastructure Automation Engineer Intern, you'll have the opportunity to help shape how AI is used within enterprise IT, exploring new approaches to automation, operational efficiency, and service improvement while gaining valuable hands‑on experience in a modern infrastructure environment. This program is for currently enrolled undergraduate rising seniors who will graduate in December2027 - Spring2028. The deadline to apply is November1,2026. Location: this onsite position will be based out of our Kansas City, MO office. Program dates: June2nd–August6th (10weeks). Work schedule: 40hours/week – Monday–Friday (8am – 5pm). This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.

How You Will Make an Impact

Assist in the design, development, and deployment of automation scripts and tools to support infrastructure operations, applying software engineering principles and programming skills to build scalable, maintainable solutions. Collaborate with team members to identify repetitive tasks and propose automation solutions. Support monitoring and alerting systems to improve visibility into infrastructure health. Participate in infrastructure projects involving cloud services, virtualization, networking, and server management. Document processes, automation workflows, and technical configurations. Learn and apply best practices in IT operations, security, and change management.

What You Bring to the Team (Required)

• You are an incoming senior enrolled in an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of infrastructure components (servers, networks, virtualization, cloud platforms).
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle and API’s.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and eagerness to learn.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Additional Assets (Preferred)

• Exposure to automation and scripting tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, or Bash) is a plus.
