Job description

White Oak Solutions is a cybersecurity consulting and managed services firm serving mid-market, regulated, and defense-adjacent clients. Our engagements span security operations, network and infrastructure architecture, compliance (including CMMC), and ongoing managed services. We are in a period of deliberate growth and are expanding our professional services practice with senior technical talent who can both deliver and help win the work.

Role Overview
About White Oak Solutions

White Oak Solutions is a cybersecurity consulting and managed services firm serving mid-market, regulated, and defense-adjacent clients. Our engagements span security operations, network and infrastructure architecture, compliance (including CMMC), and ongoing managed services. We are in a period of deliberate growth and are expanding our professional services practice with senior technical talent who can both deliver and help win the work.

The Infrastructure Architect is a senior, client-facing technologist who owns infrastructure solutions end to end — from pre-sales discovery and design through implementation, handoff, and ongoing advisory. The role sits at the center of our professional services practice: scoping and architecting Microsoft- and VMware-based environments, hybrid and public cloud (Azure and AWS), and the server, storage, and virtualization platforms underneath them.

This is a billable, delivery-leading position with a meaningful sales-engineering component. You will lead engagements, mentor engineers, shape statements of work, and act as a trusted advisor to client executives and technical staff alike. Experience inside a managed services provider — where you have lived with the environments you designed — is central to how we expect this person to think.

Key Responsibilities
Pre-sales and solution development
  • Partner with sales and leadership on discovery, whiteboarding, and solution design for prospective and existing clients
  • Develop architectures, bills of materials, level-of-effort estimates, and statements of work; present and defend designs to technical and executive audiences
  • Support proposals, RFP responses, and vendor/licensing selection (including partner pricing programs)
  • Provides objective consultation to our clients for the selection and adoption of infrastructure-related managed services.
Professional services delivery
  • Lead infrastructure engagements from kickoff through closeout: migrations, upgrades, greenfield builds, virtualization and storage projects, and cloud adoption/modernization
  • Serve as technical lead and escalation point for project engineers; enforce design, documentation, and change-management standards
  • Produce client-ready deliverables: architecture documents, runbooks, as-builts, and assessment reports
Post-sales and managed services
  • Own post-implementation transition into managed services: handoff documentation, monitoring/alerting onboarding, and operational acceptance
  • Conduct periodic architecture reviews, health checks, and roadmap/lifecycle planning for managed clients
  • Act as escalation resource for complex infrastructure incidents and root-cause analysis
Practice development
  • Help standardize reference architectures, service offerings, and delivery methodology for the infrastructure practice
  • Maintain vendor relationships and certifications aligned to our partner ecosystem
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to internal knowledge management
  • Helps enable the sales team for opportunity recognition, service and solution provider intelligence and guidance, and provide technical input to the sales process
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years in infrastructure engineering/architecture, with at least 3 in an architect or technical-lead role
  • Deep, hands‑on expertise with Microsoft infrastructure: Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange/M365 integration, Group Policy, and related identity and management tooling
  • Deep expertise with VMware (vSphere, vCenter, vSAN or equivalent storage integration), including design, migration, and lifecycle/licensing realities of the current VMware landscape
  • Strong background in server and storage platforms (SAN/NAS, HCI, backup/DR architectures) from major vendors
  • Production experience architecting and migrating workloads in both Azure and AWS — IaaS, identity, networking, storage, and cost/licensing considerations; hybrid designs a must
  • Demonstrated leadership of professional services engagements: scoping, estimating, leading delivery teams, and owning client outcomes
  • Proven pre-sales ability (discovery, solution design, proposal support, executive presentation) alongside post-sales delivery and support
  • Prior experience at or with a managed services provider, and fluency in MSP operating models (tooling, SLAs, escalation tiers, service transitions)
  • Strong written communication — this role produces client‑facing architecture and assessment deliverables
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable client access requirements; some clients operate in regulated and defense‑adjacent environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant certifications: Microsoft (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator), VMware (VCP/VCAP), AWS (Solutions Architect Associate/Professional), or equivalent demonstrated depth
  • Exposure to network and security ecosystems we work in daily: Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, HPE/Aruba, and SASE platforms such as Cato Networks
  • Experience supporting compliance-driven environments (CMMC, NIST 800-171, SOC 2, HIPAA) and designing infrastructure to control requirements
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation and tooling (PowerShell, Terraform, or similar) and with modern backup/DR platforms
  • Experience with VMware-alternative hypervisors (Hyper‑V, Proxmox, Nutanix AHV) as clients evaluate post‑Broadcom options
  • Prior work in a VAR/consultancy comp model with utilization or sales‑influenced incentives
Location and Travel
  • Remote within the United States. Travel to client sites and company offices as engagements require. Candidates in or near the Southeast are a plus given our client footprint, but not required.
