Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer focused on Infotainment and connected vehicle domains. You will ensure safety across software-hardware interfaces and validate using LabCar and HiL environments.

Collaborate with HMI, Connectivity and Platform teams on hazard analyses, safety goals, and test case development; expertise in ISO 26262 and automotive networking is essential, with ADAS exposure a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline.
• 2-3 years of automotive industry experience in functional safety or systems engineering, ideally with Infotainment, telematics, or connected vehicle platforms.
• Experience with ADAS is a strong advantage, particularly where Infotainment and driver assistance share interfaces.
• Hands-on experience with electronic hardware fault diagnosis, CAN/LIN/Automotive Ethernet network analysis.
• Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts in automotive safety.
• Proven knowledge of ISO 26262 and the ability to present technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Primarily responsible for ensuring functional safety in the design, development, and validation of Infotainment and connected vehicle features across the full vehicle lifecycle.
• Contribute to feature requirements and provide functional safety guidance on hazard analysis from electrical, display, and software interactions.
• Perform vehicle-level HARA and generate safety goals; conduct DFMEA, FTA, and FMEDA; develop safety requirements.
• Develop safety mechanisms such as redundancy architectures, hardware diagnostics, and fail-safe designs.
• Develop test cases to verify safety mechanisms on LabCar and HiL assets, with data analysis and reporting.
• Represent the functional safety team across internal and external development activities with cross-functional collaboration.
