Job summary

Ohio Department of Public Safety is seeking an Information Technology Supervisor 3 to lead a team of IT professionals in the Infrastructure & Database unit. You will supervise staff responsible for mainframe and open systems, ensuring security and high-quality service.

Based in Columbus, you will coordinate cloud support, enforce unit policies, conduct staff meetings, and set priorities while fostering development and customer-focused IT solutions for public safety operations.

Qualifications

  • 7 1/2 years (90 mos.) exp. commensurate with job duties to be performed as outlined in the position description on file.
  • 12 months exp. in performing project management functions as defined in series purpose.
  • Undergraduate coursework in computer science or related fields with extensive programming and database concepts; otherwise 66 months exp. plus 12 months PM experience.

  • Lead a team supporting the cloud computing environment; establish and enforce unit policies and procedures; conduct staff meetings as necessary.

What you'll do as a Information Technology Supervisor 3:
  • Supervise information technology staff whose primary duties involve writing, analyzing & designing computer programs &/or systems integration for mainframe computer or open system.

  • Leads a team of information technology professionals supporting the cloud computing environment for the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS); Establish & enforce unit policies & procedures; Conduct staff meetings as necessary.

  • Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g., provide developmental opportunities & work direction, coach staff to foster development, monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline, pre-screen applications & participate in interviews).

  • Assist staff in resolving information technology architecture problems & answer technical questions.

Qualifications

Option 1:

7 1/2 years (90 mos.) exp. commensurate with job duties to be performed & knowledges & skills required as outlined in approved position description on file for position to be filled as advertised in job posting

Option 2:

-Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in computer science, or completion of undergraduate core coursework in any academic major which included at least one course in each of the following: advanced-level computer programming language (for example, Cobol, Delphi, Java, Powerbuilder, Visual Basic, Pl 1, SAS PCS, Pacbase, Full Visual Suite, Designer 2000, Developer 2000, C, C++, Visual C, ECL, or Visual Studio), logic-based mathematics, data base concepts (for example, Oracle, Microsoft Access, Paradox, Sybase, IMS DB, DB2, Cache, DMS, or RDMS), computer systems analysis & design, & basic data processing concepts; additional 5 1/2 years (66 mos.) exp. commensurate with job duties to be performed & knowledges & skills required as outlined in approved position description on file for position to be filled as advertised in job posting.

AND 12 mos. exp. in performing project management functions as defined in series purpose.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves operations of computer terminal for long periods of time; overtime may be required; travel may be required which may include overnight stay; may be required to be on-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

  • This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). Whoever fills this position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.
