Job summary

Grant County is seeking an IT support professional to assist in daily operation and maintenance of County IT equipment and infrastructure. You will provide staff support for computer applications and help desk activities, ensuring backups, security, and proper configuration of devices.

The role requires familiarity with Windows Server environments, AD maintenance, VPNs, firewalls, and network hardware, plus a commitment to ongoing training and flexible hours as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent recognized certificate.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with PC’s, network & server management required.
• Experience with network components, including managed wireless access points, software-based VPNs, firewalls, managed network switches, network attached storage, backup environments and other devices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite(s) or their equivalent such as Google Workspace and a basic understanding of the operation on different software packages.
• Proficiency in Active Directory Management/Maintenance.
• Experience with Windows Server software & hardware administration, configuration and maintenance.
• Valid New Mexico State Driver’s License. Must have a good driving record to be insurable for liability purposes.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position assists in the daily operation and maintenance of County Information Technology equipment and infrastructure. It also provides support for staff computer and software applications, as needed.

• Administer and provide support to the Information Technology (IT) systems and functions of County government under the direction of the IT Director, Conference Manager, or Designee.
• Perform or assist with daily operations of personal computers and peripheral equipment. Prioritize this work via the established Help Desk ticketing system.
• Perform or assist with such daily computer activity as trouble-shooting, locating and overcoming error conditions, managing back-ups, and maintaining equipment.
• Assist in recommending changes in programs, routines, and quality control standards and IT systems to the IT Director.
• Assist in ordering of supplies related to IT; coordinates and schedules maintenance for IT equipment.
• Assist in Maintaining and administering all County policies relating to the Information Technology systems including but not limited to Disaster Recovery and contingency Plans, Computer Usage Policies, Document Retention Policies etc.
• Assist in providing information and training to County employees on operations of IT equipment as feasible.
• Attend training schools and conferences, as approved by the IT Director, Conference Manager, or Designee to update information and skills, be it on-line or occasionally out of town.
• Required to work a flexible schedule including early and late hours, as needed on weekends, and availability for a pre-determined on-call schedule.
• Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on all County computer networks and physical networks to include desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, projectors, etc.
• Follow the State of New Mexico Purchasing and Procurement laws, County Purchasing Policy and grant agreements in making purchases, transferring and disposing of assets.
• Maintain a hardware and software inventory for all IT devices, i.e. a report that lists the hardware specifications, operating system components, and software.
• Install approved hardware and software in County personal computers. Ensures that all additional hardware and software are operating correctly.
• Troubleshoot County computer equipment and makes recommendations for repair or replacement of defective/outdated equipment to the IT Director, Conference Manager, or Designee.

Work Conditions/Description of Tools, Equipment, Work Aids Used and Materials and/or Products Handled:

• Office environment. Normally works 8-5 Monday-Friday.
• May be required to attend out of town training and seminars.

• Exposed to temperature extremes, noise factors, and vibrations associated with operation of computer equipment.
• Works primarily on even carpeted or tiled surfaces, which are normally dry. May on occasion be wet or greasy.
• Exposed to electrical hazards associated with operation and maintenance of computer equipment. Exposed to normal driving hazards.
• Equipment typically used in performance of essential duties includes computer, monitor keyboard, mouse, calculator, multi-function copy machine, and telephone.

• Skill in modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers, computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
• Small hand tools typically used in the troubleshooting and maintenance of network/telephone cabling, other components of the physical network, and repair and maintenance of servers, PC’s, printers, WAPs, etc.
• Exposed to electrical hazards associated with operation and maintenance of computer equipment.
• Exposed to normal driving hazards.
