Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, IT or related field and 4 years IT experience.
• 3 years of experience building ML models using Python or R.
• Experience in legal, public-sector, research, or policy-driven environments.
• Knowledge of LLMs, transformers, or generative AI architectures (preferred).
• Experience with government, legal, or regulatory datasets (preferred).
• Understanding data governance frameworks and privacy standards (preferred).

The Information Technology Architect 1 (Data Scientist) serves as a data scientist within the New York Attorney General's Enterprise AI and Data Unit, reporting to the Manager of Artificial Intelligence Solutions. The role focuses on designing and implementing machine learning models, applying statistical methods to legal and administrative datasets, and developing analytics solutions to support legal operations, case analysis, and public services. This position collaborates across data science, engineering, and legal teams to translate complex data findings into actionable insights while ensuring compliance with data governance and AI ethics policies.

Key qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, IT or related field plus 4 years of broad IT experience
• 3 years of experience building machine learning models using programming languages like R or Python for statistical analysis
• Experience in legal, public-sector, research, or policy-driven environments
• Knowledge of LLMs, transformers, or generative AI architectures (preferred)
• Experience with government, legal, or regulatory datasets (preferred)
• Understanding of data governance frameworks and privacy standards (preferred)
