Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) II

The ISSO is responsible for maintaining the operational security posture of an information system, working closely with the ISSM and ISO. The role requires detailed knowledge to manage security aspects and oversee day-to-day security operations, including physical/environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training. Coordination with the ISSM and ISO is essential for monitoring systems, updating authorization documentation, and implementing configuration management across boundaries. The position primarily supports Special Access Programs (SAPs) for DoD agencies, including HQ Air Force, OSD, and Military Compartments, providing daily support for Collateral, SCI, and SAP activities.

Performance responsibilities include:

1. Assist the ISSM in fulfilling their duties
2. Prepare, review, and update authorization packages
3. Ensure procedures for hardware/media sanitization are in place
4. Notify ISSM of changes affecting system authorization
5. Conduct compliance reviews of information systems
6. Coordinate hardware/software modifications with ISSM and AO/DAO
7. Monitor recovery processes to ensure security features are restored
8. Maintain current security documentation
9. Review audit records and document anomalies
10. Attend relevant technical/security training
11. Participate in cybersecurity self-inspections and assessments
12. Identify vulnerabilities and assist with countermeasure implementation
13. Report on security safeguards status
14. Support internal and external customers as ISSO
15. Conduct security impact analyses for configuration changes

Experience:

• 2-5 years related experience
• SAP experience required
• Previous roles such as System, Network Administrator, or ISSO preferred

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4 years)

Certifications:

• IAT Level II or IAM Level II within 6 months of hire (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security)

Security Clearance:

• TS/SCI required
• Must attain TS/SCI with CI Polygraph

Other Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
