Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Security Engineer to contribute to the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise security systems. You will document system security requirements, evaluate new technologies, and support incident response and change management processes.

The role requires hands-on administration of endpoint protection, NAC, DLP, and firewall tools, with a focus on maintaining secure configurations and timely remediation.

Qualifications

• Six years of IT, network, or security engineering experience.
• Direct experience administering security systems such as endpoint protection, NAC, web filtering, DLP, vulnerability scanners and firewalls.
• Experience in operational roles supporting IT systems, networks, or applications.
• Baseline security-related certifications (A+, Security+, Network+ or equivalent).
• Proficient in reading and following written instructions and communicating with end-users.

Responsibilities

Job description

Responsibilities

• Contribute substantially to the design and implementation of security systems
• Identify and document system security requirements to assist with solution selection
• Evaluate new technologies and process improvements that enhance security capabilities
• Serve as a specialist for assigned security systems
• Configure, maintain, and monitor security systems, including secure email gateways, firewalls, VPN, network access control, secure web gateways, SIEM platforms, endpoint protection, data loss prevention, and vulnerability scanning tools
• Support Level I Security Engineers with service request and incident tickets and system changes
• Handle service request and incident tickets pertaining to security systems
• Review system alerts and respond according to established procedures, including triage, mitigation, and escalation
• Research, test, and present proposed security system changes to IT and business leadership
• Conduct security system changes in accordance with the change management process
• Collaborate with vendors, professional services, and other external parties to maintain security technologies
• Monitor vendor support cases, tickets, and incidents to ensure timely response and remediation
• Apply upgrades, patches, and configurations supporting patch management and vulnerability management processes
• Maintain written documentation, diagrams, procedures, and system information for security systems
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule
• Mentor team members and support cross-training
• Communicate security concerns to management in a timely manner
• Complete assigned training and pursue relevant IT and security certifications
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Minimum of six (6) years of experience in information technology, network engineering, or security engineering (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred)
• Direct experience administering security systems such as endpoint protection, network access control, web content filtering, data loss prevention, vulnerability scanners, and firewalls (required)
• Experience in operational roles supporting IT systems, networks, or applications
• Direct experience conducting basic troubleshooting, documenting tickets, and communicating with end-users (required)
• CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, or other baseline security-related certifications (required)
• CISSP, SSCP, CEH, or other intermediate security-related certifications (preferred)
• Willingness to periodically work non-standard hours and be on call
• Intermediate understanding of common enterprise operating systems, database systems, and networks
• Basic understanding of cloud computing architecture and cloud services
• Baseline knowledge of the security technology landscape and emerging security technology
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems for advanced troubleshooting techniques
• Ability to read and interpret documents and follow written or verbal instructions
• Ability to transform technical details and processes into written instructions, playbooks, and procedures
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing and present professionally to internal and external parties
• Ability to prioritize assignments while working on multiple projects
• Ability to manage time independently, elevate issues promptly, and focus on meeting SLA targets
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Service-oriented mindset and strong customer service skills
