Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior Security Engineering leader to design, test, and implement secure operating systems, networks, and monitoring tools while managing IT security systems.

You will lead the Security Engineering team, drive risk assessments, incident response, forensics, and ensure security controls meet regulatory and enterprise architecture requirements across infrastructure, network, and applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Information Technology or related Engineering field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a related area.
  • Relevant experience can substitute for the required educational qualifications; without a degree, a minimum of 11 years of related experience is required.
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and network architectures.
  • Experience with risk assessment, incident response, and digital forensics.
  • Knowledge of technical standards relating to systems security.
  • Experience administering UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with large-scale server systems, thin client architecture, system virtualization, and related peripherals.
  • Experience with A&A requirements under NISPOM, DOD RMF, ICD 503, JSIG, and NIST RMF.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required for employment due to the security clearance requirement.
  • Advanced certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or similar preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, cloud security, EDR, NDR, NAC, and DLP platforms preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AI security practices and AISPM preferred.
  • Experience leveraging AI-driven tools and automation preferred.
  • Knowledge of DoD, government contracting and/or public auditing policies preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and implement secure operating systems, networks, and security monitoring tools
  • Manage IT security systems
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments across network, system, and application layers
  • Perform incident response and oversee digital forensics
  • Develop, implement, and enforce security controls and operational risk mitigations
  • Participate in security awareness programs
  • Prepare security reports for regulatory agencies
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Security Engineering team, including hiring, performance management, and career growth planning
  • Set team priorities, workload, and resourcing in alignment with the enterprise security architecture roadmap
  • Own technical standards and quality for secure design, testing, and implementation
  • Partner with the Enterprise Security Architect to translate architecture strategy into engineering plans
  • Oversee design reviews and secure-by-design practices across infrastructure, network, and application environments
  • Direct evaluation, deployment, and lifecycle management of security tools and platforms
  • Track effectiveness of security controls and risk mitigations over time
  • Liaise with the Enterprise Security Architect, senior leadership, and cross-functional teams to embed security requirements into IT project lifecycles
  • Communicate risk posture, program status, and incident learnings to senior leadership
