Job summary

Metropolitan Community College (MCC) Fort Omaha Campus seeks an Information Literacy Concierge to welcome students, faculty, staff and community members at the Digital Express and guide them to resources and assistance with technology and campus services.

The role requires strong customer service, solid tech skills, and the ability to assist a diverse range of patrons in a fast-paced environment while maintaining an inclusive learning atmosphere.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree.
  • 1 year of direct customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in Educational, Library or Social Services setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in English; multilingual preferred (Spanish helpful).
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience will be considered.
  • Must pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with orienting to college resources and tools such as Canvas/Student Links on the MCC Portal, OneDrive, Password Change Station and MyHub.
  • Assist community members in orientation to technology, browsers, and train them on device usage (smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop).
  • Answer telephones, transfer calls, and schedule tech-assistance appointments.
  • Handle meeting and study room reservations within Digital Express and assist with tech setup.
  • Greets patrons and maintains a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ensure Digital Express sign‑in at front desk kiosk and proper security when opening/closing.
  • Provide customer service by checking technology materials in/out and updating patron records.
  • Promote and complete paperwork to initiate a Digital Express membership and promote programming.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Information Literacy Concierge will actively greet and assist students, faculty, staff and community members within the Digital Express, assess their individual needs and assist them with the use of technology and navigating to personalized direct points of service on campus. The Information Literacy Concierge will participate in programming aimed at reducing the digital divide to students and community members within the Digital Express.

The successful candidate will have great customer service skills, strong technological skills (Microsoft Office suite, data transfer knowledge, technical knowledge), and the ability to provide assistance to a wide variety of patrons from all stages of life to include senior adults.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists students with orienting to college resources and tools, such as Canvas/Student Links on the MCC Portal, OneDrive, Password Change Station and MyHub, etc.
  • Assists community members in orientation to technology, such as internet browsers, and trains them on the usage of tech devices such as smart phone, tablet, laptop and desktop.
  • Answers telephones, transfers calls appropriately, and sets tech‑assistance appointments.
  • Handles meeting and study room reservations within Digital Express and assists with technology setup for patrons utilizing the space.
  • Greets students, faculty, staff and community members who enter the Digital Express, while assisting in maintaining a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ensures all Digital Express patrons sign‑in at front desk kiosk.
  • Ensures proper security when opening and closing Digital Express.
  • Provides customer service by checking technology materials in and out and creating and updating patron records.
  • Promotes and then completes paperwork to initiate a Digital Express membership for patrons.
  • Promotes Digital Express programming, tech‑related courses, youth activities and events to patrons.
  • Produces and maintains various Digital Express records and reports, utilizing college systems.
  • Listens and responds to student and community member issues to find solutions by problem‑solving and/or referring to other college departments and off campus community resources as needed.
  • Stays current with developments in the Digital Literacy and information technology fields as well as awareness and flexibility in learning about emerging technologies.
  • Stays abreast of multiple sources of detailed information and schedules of activities in the building including tours, workshops and classes and assists with organization of on‑site activities.
  • Attends work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Digital Express is open Monday - Thursday, 8am-7pm, Friday 8am-5pm, and Saturday 11am-4pm. The incumbent must have flexibility and availability to work 40 hours within the open Digital Express hours.

This is an on‑premise position located at the Fort Omaha Campus

  • Ability to provide support for students, bridging their classroom learning by assisting with the location of learning materials, resources and equipment.

  • Knowledge of college‑wide functions, particularly student affairs, financial aid, academic affairs, academic records, enrollment services, etc.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems or ability to learn.
  • Desire to learn and grow within this position and to make it your own.
  • Ability to occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to lift, push, carry, pull or otherwise move objects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associates degree.
  • One (1) years of direct customer service experience working in a fast‑paced, service‑orientated environment.
  • Experience in an Educational, Library or Social Services setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in English; multilingual preferred (Spanish helpful).
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience will be considered.
  • Must pass background check.
