Job summary

Halifax Health is seeking an Infection Preventionist to lead surveillance, risk assessment and prevention initiatives across the hospital network. You will collaborate with clinical staff, support services and management to design, implement and evaluate infection prevention and control programs.

You will educate staff, coordinate NHSN reporting, develop policies and provide data-driven insights to reduce infection rates and improve patient safety in a complex acute care environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, public health or related field required.
• Master's in public health or Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred; if not certified, must obtain within 3 years of hire.
• Minimum three years experience in acute care setting as an Infection Preventionist, including surveillance and epidemiologic investigation.
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis and reporting; knowledge of NHSN criteria.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ongoing infection surveillance and apply epidemiologic principles to identify trends.
• Coordinate system-wide infection prevention and control program activities.
• Provide education, training and resources on infection prevention and health care epidemiology.
• Review regulations and develop policies to prevent infection spread and ensure compliance.
• Coordinate NHSN data submission and reporting; support performance improvement initiatives.
