Job summary

Halifax Health ExpressCare is seeking an Infection Preventionist to serve as a resource for clinical, support and management services. The role conducts surveillance, applies epidemiologic principles, and leads system-wide infection prevention activities.

Education and policy development are key components of the position. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years in acute care, with CIC certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, public health or related field required.
• Minimum three years experience in acute care as Infection Preventionist or 4+ years as RN in ICU/step-down settings.
• Knowledge of CDC/NHSN criteria; data collection and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and creating PowerPoint presentations.

Responsibilities

• Conducts ongoing infection surveillance and epidemiologic investigations.
• Coordinates system-wide infection prevention and control program activities.
• Provides education and training on infection prevention issues and policies.
• Reviews regulations to ensure compliance and develops necessary policies.
